POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Gas Testing Technician is responsible for performing gas testing safely and efficiently on all plant mechanical equipment and pipelines as directed by his/her Supervisor.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Inspect orifice plates and replace when needed
  • Calculate flow rates and volumes
  • Perform testing for O2 and H2S levels in gas streams
  • Obtain data from electronic flow measurement devices
  • Obtain gas and liquid analysis for testing  
  • Meter volume through accounting process 
  • Data entry and validation, volume editing, reporting, field balances, and meter schematics
  • Utilize Maximo and GIS mapping system
  • Schedule and perform settlement tests and notify producers
  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of Targa’s measurement standards, procedures and specifications
  • Verify and calibrate electronic flow measurement meters and dry flow meters
  • Evaluate meter tubes for compliance with standards
  • Maintain files and records for settlement tests and equipment
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment, repair records, preventive and predictive maintenance
  • Perform quality control procedures for chromatograph and test equipment
  • Plan and perform all assignments in a safe manner by utilizing the proper tools, safety and environmental precautions and permits, and detailed knowledge of the effect his/her work will have on their co-workers and the plant and field operations
  • A basic knowledge of field measurement, gas quality determination, calculations, specifications and limits, measurement audit trail, and understand and use LEL, H2S and O2 detectors
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required

WORK CONDITIONS:
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, with the ability to respond to call outs as needed to fulfill business objective and the ability to work shifts for plant or field conditions
  • Ability to frequently throughout the work shift,  push, pull and lift at least a minimum of 50lbs  to a minimum height of  3-4 feet and maneuver equipment or parts as needed
  • Ability to work outdoors in changing climate conditions
  • Able to work in close quarters: i.e., work while kneeling, squatting, sitting, climbing, and standing
  • Ability to climb up and down ladders, stairs and platforms at varying heights
  • Follow and adhere to all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines (ex: eye protection, footwear, Nomex)
  • We maintain a drug-free workplace and perform pre-employment substance abuse testing
  • This role is subject to drug and alcohol testing, per applicable federal regulations or as required by Targa policy

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS):

1. Education & License:  
  • Minimum High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license to include a safe driving record satisfactory to the company
  • Associate’s degree in technical discipline (preferred)           
2. Experience:  
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience
3. Skills/Competencies:
  • Must have a mechanical aptitude
  • Interpersonal communication skills are required in order to interface with all affected teams, personnel, and vendors
  • An organized and detail-oriented self-starter with a strong work ethic
  • Ability to work self-sufficiently given direction and resources
  • Well-grounded, preferring to work in a collegial and team environment
  • Ability to think critically, solve problems independently and exercise excellent judgment and common sense
4. Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in performing gas testing safely and efficiently on all plant mechanical equipment.e
